Ruoms (pronounced Ruonce [ʁɥɔ̃s]) is a French commune situated in the département of Ardèche in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its inhabitants are called the Ruomsois and the Ruomsoises.
A little history
Ruoms is a medieval village, founded at the end of the 10th century near a Cluniac abbey of which the chapel Notre-Dame-des-Pommiers and its enclosure remain. The old ramparts that surround it form a rectangular plan. They are fitted with seven round towers and a church of Romanesque architecture and were erected in the 14th century, during the Hundred Years War. The pays de Ruoms is a land of quarries, still in operation fifty years ago.
