Roissy-en-Brie is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-et-Marne in the Île-de-France region. In 2017, it was the ninth most populous commune in Seine-et-Marne, after Champs-sur-Marne and before Torcy.
A little history
In 1115, legend has it that the seneschal Anseau de Garlande and his niece Yolande were riding on horseback through the forest of Roissy-en-Brie when a wild boar attacked his niece's mount. A serf from Torcy and a peasant from Roissy-en-Brie then rushed forward to help the lord and the young lady. To reward this act of bravery, Anseau de Garlande offered a plot of forest, approximately 150 hectares, to the villages of Torcy and Roissy-en-Brie. The forest was at the time a valuable resource, as it was a reserve of game and timber for construction and heating. There was once a priory at Roissy, which was in ruins by the 19th century.
