Rilhac-Rancon (pronounced in French, [ʁijak ʁɑ̃kɔ̃]) is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Vienne, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called the Rilhacois.
A little history
It was at the beginning of the common era that a certain Rialus (from the Gaulish rialos, meaning agreeable) or Relliacum (from the Gallo-Roman régulus, meaning petty king) is said to have given its name to Rilhac. Then, sometimes called Rilhac-près-Beaune (1416), sometimes Rilhac-près-Ambazac, it was around 1690 that Rilhac became a prévôté-cure of Rilhac-près-Beaune, in the diocese of Limoges, attached to the archiprêtré of Rancon. It is thus that the commune has since borne the name of Rilhac-Rancon. During this period, the territory was placed under the dual authority of a prévôt and a curé.
