A little history
Well before the Roman conquest, an important route linking Bourges to Bordeaux crossed the Vienne at the place known today as Noblat. This crossing was a ford. A few kilometres upstream (at the communal boundary with St Denis-des-Murs), traces can be found of the imposing Gaulish oppidum of Villejoubert, a fortified site belonging to the tribe of the Lémoviques. It was at Noblat (thought to derive from nobiliacum, meaning noble place, that is to say a place belonging to a lord) that the first village came into being.
