Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche (pronounced [sɛ̃tiʁjelapɛʁʃ]) is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Vienne, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Saint-Yrieix is the sixth largest town in Haute-Vienne by population, and the most extensive commune in the département. It is also the most southerly town in Haute-Vienne, and one of the six gateway towns of the Parc naturel régional Périgord-Limousin.
A little history
From the 5th century BC, the Gaulish Lémovices worked dozens of gold mines in the present-day commune. Two villages populated by miners have also been discovered within the commune. These villages were situated at the heart of the mining district of Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche.
