Quelaines-Saint-Gault is a French commune situated in the département of Mayenne in the Pays de la Loire region, with a population of 2,152 inhabitants (the Quelainais). The commune is part of the historic province of l'Anjou (Haut-Anjou).
A little history
The village already existed in the 11th and 13th centuries. It succeeded at that time a military colony. In the Middle Ages and then under the Ancien Régime, the commune was part of the fief of the Angevin barony of Craon, fell under the principal sénéchaussée of Angers and the pays d'élection of Château-Gontier. The church of Quelaines was burned down during the Wars of the Vendée, on the orders of Treton Jambe-d'Argent, who was operating at that time on the territory of the commune.
