Puy-l'Évêque is a French commune situated in the south-west of the département of Lot, in the Occitanie region. It is also in the Bouriane, a natural region of sandy, hilly terrain covered in forest with chestnuts as the principal species. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Lot, the ruisseau de Clédelles and various other small watercourses.
A little history
The Romans left a road joining Cahors to Bordeaux, but the present-day roads, on the upper part of the village, have covered over the remains. Puy-l'Évêque emerged from obscurity in the Middle Ages when Guillaume de Cardaillac, bishop of Cahors, annexed the village in the context of the crusade against the Albigensians. He took, it would seem, as his reason that the lord of the area, probably the seigneur de Luzech, had embraced the cause of the heretics like his overlord the comte de Toulouse.
