Pradines is a French commune, situated in the south-west of the Lot department in the Occitanie region. It also lies within the Quercy Blanc, a natural region corresponding to the southern part of the Quercy, which owes its name to its Tertiary lacustrine limestone. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Lot and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
After the Roman conquest, wealthy inhabitants who had become citizens of Rome probably built sumptuous villas at Pradines. A legend recounts that one of these notables was converted to Christianity by the first apostle of the Quercy, saint Martial. The church that bears the saint's name is said to have been built on the site of this house. Pradines subsequently became a place of pilgrimage that was very well frequented for several centuries.
