Pontacq (in Gascon Occitan Pontac or Pountac) is a French commune situated in the département des Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The local residents are known as Pontacquais.
A little history
Paul Raymond notes that the commune had a lay abbey, which was a vassal of the vicomté de Béarn. In 1385, Pontacq had twenty-six hearths within the town, and eighty-two outside the walls. It came under the bailliage de Montaner. The notairie de Pontacq covered only the town itself.
