A little history
Originally, Pont-de-Vaux depended religiously on the parish of Saint-Bénigne and possessed only a chapel dedicated to Sainte Anne. However, at the collation of the abbé de Tournus, it possessed a parish church from the 14th century onwards, which was erected as a collegiate church under the name of Notre-Dame in 1515 by Louis de Gorrevod, bishop of Maurienne and first bishop of Bourg-en-Bresse, and by his brother Laurent. Depending on the domain of the sires de Bâgé, the locality was granted a charter of franchises by the latter in 1250. Twenty-two years later, it passed into the hands of the governors of Savoie following the marriage of Sibylle de Bâgé and Amédée V de Savoie.
