A little history
A flint fragment discovered in the quartier du Pouverel and the remains of an oppidum enclosure at Notre Dame des Anges show that prehistoric people were already living on the territory of Pignans. Excavations in the quartier Berthoire have made it possible to identify Pignans as a vicus routier, a settlement situated on a road. In the 1st century AD this road linked Forum Voconii (near le Cannet des Maures) to Telo Martius (Toulon). The Roman village of Pignans originally extended from le Carry to Berthoire, where the foundations of buildings and houses can still be seen, along with the remains of vats and wine presses.
