A little history
An ancient medieval village, the first written references to which date back to the 11th century. Petrafoci, Petrafog, Rochafog and finally Pierrefeu-du-Var are the names the commune has carried over time. It belonged to various lordships and counties before being elevated to a marquisate in the 17th century. The name is thought to derive either from pierres à feu (fire stones) or from focus, in the sense of hearths or families known as feux, as recorded in the census of feux of 1471, which counted 69 of them.
