Ozoir-la-Ferrière (pronounced [ɔ.ˈzwaʁ la fɛ.ˈʁjɛʁ]) is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-et-Marne in the Île-de-France region.
A little history
In the woods of Monthéty or Monthély, (at the time within the territory of the parish of Lésigny), Maurice de Sully, bishop of Paris, founded the abbaye de Monthéty in 1167. Its existence was short-lived, and a few decades later it had disappeared. Its lands and assets, as well as the spiritual and temporal management of the chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, passed to the abbaye d'Hyverneau, or d'Hiverneau, which was close by. The continuation of worship in this chapel of Monthéty gradually gave rise to a pilgrimage. Later, owing to the great number of the faithful drawn to the site, at the request of the monks of Hivernaux, a neighbouring abbey now destroyed, a fair was established there in 1512.
