Oletta is a French commune situated in the departmental constituency of Haute-Corse and the territory of the collectivité de Corse. It belongs to the former piève d'Oletta, of which it was the chief town, in the Nebbio.
A little history
The former pays du Nebbio was occupied by the Cilebenses (Nibolensii?), one of the twelve nations, most of them indigenous, who, according to Ptolémée, inhabited Corsica. Ptolémée also mentioned Oletta as being a civitas, an oppidum. Chroniclers speak of the existence of the Roman town of Cersunum one kilometre to the west of the present-day town of Saint-Florent, at the point where the plain of Oletta meets the gulf of Saint-Florent. Cersunum and Ostricon were the principal civitates of the Nebbio.
