Nemours ([nəmuʁ]) is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-et-Marne in the Île-de-France region. The town is known for its Château-Musée as well as for the musée départemental de Préhistoire d'Île-de-France.
A little history
The site of Beauregard or bois des Beauregards was excavated by M. Soudan from before 1929 until January 1932, and by the abbé André Nouel (1901-1971) probably around the same period, but the Nouel de Beauregard collection was destroyed in the fire at Orléans in 1940. Layer C, the oldest, is attributed to the "Magdalénien I" by A. Nouel and by Raoul Daniel, who also studied the lithic industry of the site (1930, 1937). However Nouel states that the pieces from this layer are entirely comparable to those from Badegoule and that he had at one time believed them to be from the Aurignacian.
