Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-et-Marne in the Île-de-France region. It was created in 2017 under the legal framework of the commune nouvelle, resulting from the merger of five former communes (Moret-sur-Loing, Écuelles, Montarlot, Épisy and Veneux-les-Sablons) in two intermediate stages, namely the creation of the short-lived communes nouvelles of Orvanne (merger of Moret-sur-Loing and Écuelles in 2015) and of Moret Loing et Orvanne (merger of Orvanne, Montarlot and Épisy in 2016), both now dissolved.

A little history

At the lieu-dit Saint-Lazare near the faubourg d'Écuelles to the east of the former commune of Moret-sur-Loing, between the route de Montereau (D606) and the chemin de Montarlot (D40E1) near the étang de Moret, there is a tumulus established below ground and covered by 25 cm of topsoil. M. Chouquet found calcined human bones there and, in a pit, 5 skull fragments. According to him, two burial rites took place there, one before cremation and the other after. Other chambers surrounded and covered with stones contained axillary bones, teeth and pieces of skulls, some barely burnt and others completely blackened by fire.
