Montpont-en-Bresse is a French commune situated in the département of Saône-et-Loire, in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The commune is also situated in the Bresse louhannaise. It was part of the communauté de communes Saône, Seille, Sâne from 2014 to 2016 and has belonged since 1 January 2017 to the communauté de communes Terres de Bresse, whose headquarters are located in Cuisery.
A little history
Man may have been present very early in this part of the Bresse known as the louhanaise, as human presence has left traces in the neighbouring Mâconnais, near Solutré. The Revermont contains many caves, as does the very nearby pays tournugeois, where man could find shelter and protect himself from the predators of the time. At first, the earliest men were hunters and then they also became herdsmen, raising domesticated animals in enclosures. The Bronze Age and, later, the Iron Age brought enormous agricultural progress to these inhabitants.
