A little history
The abbé de Mayeul (Cluny) held among his lands an estate which is roughly that of the present-day communauté de communes du Pays de Fayence. Even though traces of life dating from Prehistory (Celto-Ligurians) and from the Roman period (the Roman aqueduct from Fréjus to Mons) can be found, Montauroux truly emerged in 1044, upon the establishment of Pierre d'Aurosa on this limestone outcrop. The geographical situation of this place is entirely privileged, between the Alpine foothills to the north, the ancient via Aurélia to the south, the river la Siagne to the west, and the succession of villages of the pays de Fayence to the west.
