A little history
In 1334 the valley was declared common property with the sharing of revenues between Jean II de Rosillon and the sire de Gex, Hugues de Joinville. In the agreement, one clause would prove important for the future as it was decided to build and endow, at shared expense, a hospice in the valley. This hospice was served by a few monks tasked with offering hospitality to the poorest pilgrims who made their way to the tomb of the saints of Condat (Saint-Claude) to pray. People came there from Geneva and from Savoy.
