Matour (Matô in Charolais patois) is a French commune situated in the département of Saône-et-Loire, in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It is situated in a rural revitalisation zone.
A little history
During the 20th century, the gendarmerie and the tax office successively left Matour to relocate to the commune of Dompierre-les-Ormes. In 1992 the commune, along with certain neighbouring communes, formed the communauté de communes de Matour et sa région. The headquarters were then established in the commune of Trambly. In 2008, a significant drug trafficking operation was dismantled in the commune, resulting in the record seizure of 23.5 kg of heroin, the second largest heroin haul in France, as well as numerous weapons, highlighting the explosion of hard drug use in rural areas, in Matour.
