A little history
The earliest traces of human occupation are found at the hamlet of les Hautiers. Marines only appears at the beginning of the early Middle Ages, being no more than a poor village living in the shadow of the neighbouring locality of Chars, whose church of Saint-Sulpice, in all its splendour, still reflects its former prosperity. In 1250, Marines had only twenty feux, that is to say households, and the hamlet of les Hautiers had as many, whereas Chars represented three hundred and forty feux.
