Manduel is a French commune located in the south-east of the Gard département, in the Occitanie region. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Buffalon and the Roubine. The commune has a remarkable natural heritage, a Natura 2000 site (the «costières nîmoises»), a protected area (the «Costières de Nimes») and a natural area of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The territory of the commune has been occupied since very remote times. Flint tools attributed to the Gravettian period (approximately 25,000 years ago) were found during rescue excavations carried out by F. Bazile of the CNRS (Vauvert) and his team during the summer of 2000. The location of a Gravettian hunters' camp was marked by several structures made from costière pebbles, including a clearly defined hearth.
