A little history
Nesles is mentioned at the beginning of the 9th century (Naslei), as belonging to the estate of a certain Gisle (Gisla). She donated it to the abbaye de Gembloux, which had just been founded by her grandson Saint Guibert, a donation confirmed in 946 by a charter from Otton Ier du Saint-Empire. The hamlet of Rigny was the seat of the commanderie de Rigny of the ordre de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem, founded before 1227.
