Loyettes [lɔjɛt] is a French commune situated in the département de l'Ain, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. The commune is positioned in the Bas-Bugey, in the small natural area of the plaine de l'Ain (itself situated between the Bas-Bugey, the Côtière and the Isle-Crémieu to the south). The inhabitants of Loyettes are called the Loyettains.
A little history
The origins of the village go back to Barnard de Romans, who settled at Ambronay in 803. He acquired land on the right bank of the Rhône in order to have a defensive tower built there (which would later become a keep) in case of enemy incursion via the nearby Roman road linking Saint-Claude to Vienne. In 1147, the abbot of Ambronay entrusted the protection of the keep to the family d'Anthon, and then to the Comte de Savoie in 1282. Isabelle d'Anthon, wife of Hugues de Genève, himself the son of Amédée II de Genève, owned the village of Loyettes. The village subsequently became the property of the family de Saint-Priest in 1381, and then passed to Odon de Villars on 12 February 1393.
