Lésigny, the town
Lésigny covers 10.1 km², lies between 69 and 121 m above sea level and had 6,923 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Lésigny is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-et-Marne in the Île-de-France region.
A little history
The presence of a Gallo-Roman villa in the area known as « la Grande Romaine » suggests that the etymology of Lésigny derives from the name of the Roman landowner Licinus, who owned an estate there. The abbaye Notre-Dame d'Hyverneaux and the abbaye de Monthéty (1167) shared the communal territory for a time, before the abbaye de Monthéty ceased its activities a few decades later. Around 1170, the annual fair of Monthéty, dedicated to the Vierge de septembre, was established. After the closure of the abbaye de Monthéthy, it passed under the authority of the abbaye d'Hyvernau.
