Lent, the town

Lent covers 31.5 km², lies between 240 and 296 m above sea level and had 1,512 inhabitants in the 2023 census.

Lent is a French commune situated in the département de l'Ain in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its inhabitants are called the Lentais and the Lentaises.

A little history

The oldest documents mentioning the existence of a village on the current lands of Lent date back to 855 and refer to Lentis Villa. In 1244, the seigneury was sold (in part or in full) by Jocelin de Morestel to Humbert V de Beaujeu. Until the 13th century, there were few towns in Bresse and in Dombes, but these lands were populated by peasants living in hamlets far from one another, very likely because the region was little affected by wars.
