A little history
In the 12th century, a priory was erected, dependent on the order of Fontevrault founded in the 12th century by Robert d'Arbrissel (around 1047 to around 1117). The priory, like every new foundation, was directly dependent on the mother abbey. The priory comprised at least one monastery of monks and one convent of nuns, hence the name Lencloître, meaning the cloisters. Like many others, the commune of Boussageau welcomed the advances of the French Revolution favourably.
