Le Cheylas [lə ʃela] is a French commune located in the département of Isère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its inhabitants are known as the Cheylasiens. The commune has one monument that is the subject of a partial listing as a historic monument, the manoir de la Tour.
A little history
Built from 1475 on flat ground perhaps formerly protected by moats, the manoir de la Tour has the elegant façade of a building typical of the 16th century. It is therefore very likely that a number of dwellings stood on the current site of the Bourg. It is certain, however, that cultivated fields allowed Sébastien Guiffrey (the owner of the manor) to feed himself adequately. The community of Cheilas (Le Cheylas) was, under the Ancien Régime, attached to the mandement de Morêtel.
