Lamastre is a French commune, situated in the département of Ardèche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Situated in the northern part of the département of Ardèche, the territory of the commune of Lamastre lies downstream of the confluence of the Doux and the Sumène, on the road linking the towns of Valence and Le Puy-en-Velay. The inhabitants are known as the Lamastrois(e)s.
A little history
La Réforme. On 26 April 1562, the consuls of Annonay sent a letter to Geneva, requesting a pastor for "the poor brethren of the church of Macheville… a faithful man to proclaim the word of God to them". Les martyrs de Macheville. On 3 May 1587, a small procession paying homage to the miraculous Virgin was led by the fathers de La Gruterie and de La Roche, prior and priest of Macheville respectively. A Huguenot troop, which had just taken the town of Desaignes, headed by Captain Jacques de Chambaud, baron de Privas, decided to set upon the small group of worshippers in procession.
