Lagnieu is a French commune situated in the département de l'Ain, in the région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Its inhabitants, numbering 7,214 in 2020, are called the Lagnolans or the Latiniçois.
A little history
Around 1430, the inhabitants of Lagnieu seized six oxen belonging to the monks of the chartreuse de Portes and ravaged their crops by releasing their pigs onto the land. During the French Revolution, Lagnieu took the revolutionary name of Fontaine-d'Or. In 1875, the opening of the ligne d'Ambérieu à Montalieu-Vercieu allowed Lagnieu, which had a station, to benefit from a connection to the rail network. Passenger traffic continued until 1937.
