A little history
Joseph Fournet, a professor at the Université de Lyon, was the discoverer of the Lagerstätte site located within the commune. It is an internationally recognised palaeontological deposit renowned for the extraordinary preservation of marine animals dating from the Jurassic period. The site is located on the territory of the communes of La Voulte-sur-Rhône and Rompon, and corresponds to the former iron-mining workings. Today it is classified as a sensitive natural area and belongs to the département de l'Ardèche.
