La Ville-du-Bois (pronounced [la vil d̪y bwa]) is a French commune situated twenty-three kilometres south-west of Paris in the département of Essonne in the Île-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called les Urbisylvains.
A little history
Originally a simple hamlet of Nozay, it was part of the châtellenie de Marcoussis until the Revolution. This tiny hamlet, having formed at the crossroads of the forêt d'Aqualina (forêt d'Yveline) and the forêt de Séquigny (forêt de Sainte Geneviève-des-Bois), was called Villa Bosci. Some years ago, flint tools were found in the fields by market gardeners. Then, in the cartularies of the prieuré de Longpont, the name Boscis Guildonis Adegavensus appears, meaning the wood of Monsieur Guy d'Anjou.
