La Verpillière [la vɛʁpijɛʁ] is a French commune in the urban unit of Villefontaine, located in the département of Isère in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Formerly attached to the province of Dauphiné, the town is situated in the eastern part of the urban area of Lyon. The commune belongs to the communauté d'agglomération Porte de l'Isère, whose headquarters are established at L'Isle d'Abeau.
A little history
During the medieval period, the parish of La Verpillière fell under the lordship of the seigneurs de Fallavier. The accounts of the châtellenie de Fallavier, established by Pierre II de Savoie, are among the oldest preserved records of administration by the comtes de Savoie and date back to the middle of the 13th century. Guillaume de Beauvoir was in 1233 the seigneur de Fallavier and of the surrounding lands and paid homage to the chapter of Saint-Maurice. In 1242 he sold his possession as a fief oblat to the bishop of Clermont, then to the archbishop of Vienne in 1247.
