La Tour-du-Pin is a French commune situated in the département of Isère (of which it is one of the sub-prefectures) in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Geographically, the commune is located in the historic region of Bas-Dauphiné, corresponding to the northern part of the département, often referred to locally by the name of Nord-Isère, part of which forms the natural region of Terres froides.
A little history
At the beginning of Antiquity, the territory of the Allobroges extended over the greater part of the lands that would later be named Sapaudia (this "land of fir trees" would become Savoie) and to the north of Isère. The Allobroges, like many other Gaulish peoples, were a confederation. In fact, the Romans gave, for convenience, the name Allobroges to all the Gaulish peoples living in the civitate (city) of Vienne, to the west and south of Sapaudia. The former location of a watchtower dating from the Roman era, the motte castrale cited in the 9th century is currently occupied by a Madonna.
