La Motte is a French commune situated in the département of Var, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
A little history
Life in La Motte was shaped at the foot of the tour de l'Horloge, built from the tufa stone with which the old village was constructed. Originally, from 1030 to 1039, the borough appeared under the name of Motta-Lamberti, in a charter from the 11th and 12th centuries. The prieuré de Motta (in Provençal Moutto) was ceded by the chapter of Saint-Victor to the abbot Le Blance, prior of La Celle, in recognition of another cession. The lands of La Motte were enfeoffed in 1201 to those of Trans, in favour of the Villeneuve, and incorporated into the dependencies of the marquisate erected in 1505.
