A little history
La Garde possesses vestiges from Antiquity and the Roman period, notably an olive press near the campus of the Université. The patron saint of the commune, saint Maur, is, according to local legend, a man named Maur who passed through in 542. Hungry when he entered the village, an old woman gave him bread and onions. Maur blessed them and decided that from that day, the onions of La Garde would have the sweetness of an apple.
