A little history
In the 11th century the greater part of the settlement was located on the left bank of the Marne and formed the parish of Saint-Étienne-de-Condé. On the right bank a settlement grew up near the chapel that was the origin of the château and formed the parish of Saint-Nicolas. At the beginning of the 12th century, a hôtel-Dieu dedicated to saint Léonard was established at La Ferté, and a leper colony was situated outside the town. Until the middle of the 16th century, the history of La Ferté presented no noteworthy events.
