La Coquille is a French commune situated in the département of Dordogne, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It is part of the Parc naturel régional Périgord-Limousin.
A little history
Located on one of the five routes of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, it was in this parish that pilgrims were given a coquille Saint-Jacques, which is the origin of the name La Coquille and the emblem associated with it. The church, situated on the route Richard Cœur-de-Lion, was re-inaugurated by the sovereign and received him during his journey. He announced several edicts there. As a commune, the name La Coquille did not officially appear until 1856, replacing Sainte-Marie-de-Frugie.
