La Clayette (pronounced [la klɛt], « La Clète ») is a French commune situated in the département of Saône-et-Loire, in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
A little history
A fortified house was built near the pond by Jean de Lespinasse in 1307 in order to resist the brigands who were ravaging the kingdom of France. As the English invasion grew threatening with the Hundred Years War and France was overrun by armed bands, King Charles V encouraged lords to restore their fortresses. Thus, Philibert de Lespinasse, successor to Jean, transformed the fortified house into a château in 1380. Louis de Chantemerle inherited the lordship by marriage in 1420.
