A little history
According to historical records, a Roman lord by the name of Quintus established a small agricultural holding farmed by settlers. The holding took the name of its owner and the Villa Quintus (or Quintio) became, through a series of alterations, Quincheys and then Quinchay. Later, a chapel was built, the chapelle Sainte-Marie de Quinchay. Over time, this became La Chapelle-de-Guinchay. This original chapel, built in 907, eventually became too small and was replaced in 1672 by a larger one, retaining the original choir, apse and bell tower (which were to be demolished in the 19th century).
