Juillan is a French commune situated in the centre of the département of Hautes-Pyrénées, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the former comté de Bigorre, a historic county of the French Pyrénées and Gascony. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Échez, the Geune and two other watercourses.
A little history
The Napoleonic cadastral plan of Juillan can be consulted on the website of the departmental archives of Hautes-Pyrénées. On 19 January 1944, the resistance derailed a train made up of eight carriages and a goods van, running between Toulouse and Pau, between the stations of Juillan and Ossun, killing 25 people and injuring around fifty.
