A little history
On 1 September 1914, the French 5e armée established its provisional HQ in the commune. That same day, a patrol from the 310e régiment d'infanterie stopped a German vehicle, inside which an officer was carrying a map of the advance of the 1re armée (Germany). The order of battle was clearly defined, with the entire army required to head in a south-westerly direction. It then skirted Paris to the east, before being halted some twenty kilometres from the capital, during the première bataille de la Marne.
