Jassans-Riottier is a French commune situated in the département of l'Ain, in the région of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Its inhabitants are called the Jassannais and the Jassannaises.
A little history
Jassans only appears in the 15th century and was at that time a seigneury with full jurisdiction within the châtellenie de Beauregard, itself created from the northern portion of the terre de Riottier acquired by the sire de Beaujeu, probably around the middle of the 11th century. The fiefs of Gleteins and de la Place were to be found there. The village belonged to the sovereignty of Dombes until 1762, the date of its attachment to the kingdom of France. Riottier was a fief already cited around 970, whose lords paid homage to the comte de Mâcon.
