Grimaud has its origins in the castrum de Grimaldo, mentioned since the 11th century. The village evolved, descending from its rocky outcrop until the 14th century. Then, in the 14th century, the village refocused on the top of the hill, sheltering behind the current rampart. Traces of human presence from the Neolithic period can be found (5000 BC.
