A little history
Before the year 700, this place is said to have already been mentioned. The existence of Gorron is attested from the 11th century. Around 1064, the stronghold of Gorron was besieged and taken by Guillaume le Conquérant, duc de Normandie, and subsequently represented an indispensable support against the comté de Mortain and the seigneur de Mayenne. Around 1082, the cure of Gorron is mentioned under the name of Apud Gorronum, and at that date, the half-brother of Guillaume le Conquérant, Robert de Mortain, comte de Mortain, and his wife Mathilde, gave "la moitié de l'église, des péages et des cans, du four et du moulin de Gorron" for the founding of a prebend of their chapter of Mortain.
