A little history
Vestiges of protohistoric presence are found to the north of the prieuré de Saint-Jean de Garguier. A sepulchral cave was discovered by chance in 1875 in the vallon Saint-Clair. The remains of around twenty individuals were discovered along with flint tools and some fragments of pottery. The presence of a villa has been confirmed on the site known as LOCUS GARGARIUS, today the village of Saint-Jean de Garguier.
