A little history
Gan is a bastide founded in 1335 by Gaston II de Foix-Béarn. He gave it this name, a homonym of Gand in Belgium, in memory of the Flanders campaign in which he took part. An important stopping point on the transhumance route, it grew rapidly. In 1385 Gan had 175 hearths, making it at that time more important than Pau.
