A little history
Archaeological surveys have revealed several traces of prehistoric occupation on the territory of the commune, notably two Neolithic settlements at the lieu-dits of les Grès and la Camandoule. Two fortified settlements dating from the Iron Age have also been identified at la Péjade and la Colle de Gagnore, the latter having yielded artefacts dated to the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. Particularly valued by the Romans, who referred to the settlement by the name of Favienta Loca (meaning pleasant place), Fayence features several sites of ancient occupation spread across its territory.
