Estissac is a French commune, situated in the département de l'Aube in the région Grand Est. Its inhabitants are called the Liébautins, in reference to the former name of Estissac, Saint-Liébault.
A little history
In 1991, a preventive archaeological dig carried out before the construction of the A5 motorway revealed, on the côte d'Ervaux, a circular Celtic necropolis forty metres in diameter, with ditches cut into the chalk. The monument contains several burials, including a tomb dating from around 450 BC. Within the latter, several objects were revealed by the dig. These were amber beads from the Baltic, a two-wheeled chariot dating from the early La Tène period, two cists from the final Hallstatt period, and a cauldron from the early Hallstatt period (the latter had therefore been in use for more than a hundred years before being buried).
