Pont-Sainte-Marie is a French commune situated in the département of Aube, in the Grand Est region. Its inhabitants are called the Mariepontains and Mariepontaines. Pont-Sainte-Marie is part of the communauté d'agglomération Troyes Champagne Métropole.
A little history
The oldest known lords were the comtes de Champagne, who made donations. Henri le Libéral made a donation to the abbaye Saint-Loup de Troyes, confirmed in 1136 by Innocent II, and the same again in 1157 to the collégiale Saint-Étienne de Troyes. The said collégiale held the right of toll on the bridge until 1750. The village was the seat of a mairie and the bishop exempted the men and women of the mairie de Pont from mortmain in 1244. Until 1789, Pont came under the généralité and intendance of Châlons-sur-Marne, the élection and bailliage of Troyes, and it was dependent on the Mairie royale de la Grande-rivière.
